In terms of colour schemes, the 60-30-10 rule of interior design prescribes that 60 percent of the total colour of the unit should be from the unit itself (i.e. the walls, ceiling, and floor), 30 percent should be from the pieces of furniture, and the remaining 10 percent should be from the accent pieces. This allows for a dynamic but balanced look. In applying the 60-30-10 rule, make sure that the colours you choose are complementary to create a cohesive interior design.
Determine whether the furniture satisfies the functions you've planned for the room. If a piece isn't working or if it's too large or too small for the size of the room, get rid of it or trade it for something else around the house that may be more appropriate.
